Podcast: Macy's Social Success

Hi everyone, I hope you all had a fun and safe St. Patrick's Day weekend! Today I am sharing my first-ever podcast, where I talk about Macy's Social Success with their interesting social media campaign that was recently discussed by Lauren Hockenson in her article "Making Fashion Personal: Macy's Smart Social Media Strategy". With the premier of the new NBC show Fashion Star this past week, I've been noticing that Macy's has a multiplatform campaign that is fun and unique. In addition to the use of popular social media outlets such as Twitter and Facebook, Macy's has also integrated the use of other tools such as YouTube and smartphone QR codes into their campaign. I hope you enjoy the podcast!

  1. I really like Macy’s but while away at school rarely make it to the mall. So unfortunately I’ve never even heard of Macy’s backstage pass program. It sounds pretty cool though! I think one of the best ways to draw attention to a brand or new product is to offer promotions to fans and customers. Everyone loves free stuff or even the chance to win something; especially a $500 shopping spree! You make a great point that smartphones are the new “it” item. It’s awesome that Macy’s has picked up on this and implemented it into their stores and social media strategy. I look forward to looking for the barcodes throughout Macy’s next time I make it to the mall!

  2. I used to work at Macy's a few summers ago. They definitely use social media to their advantage. They use the smartphone QR codes and try to reach their customers in many ways. There are always promotions throughout the stores. Fashion Star is also being used to really boost their brand by showing what will be sold in stores and using it as a big campaign for their stores.
